Curatorial Statement

If Eve’s consumption of the forbidden apple was the birth of sin, we are living in its afterbirth: a celebration of grandeur, sensory and erotic satisfaction, and the dastardly dance between reality and fantasy. What was once naked is now clothed, and the facade has been shattered. The Garden of Earthly Delights, directly inspired by Hieronymous Bosch’s triptych of the same name, is Textured Memos’s largest, most ambitious project to date as a collective, featuring over sixty works and twenty-seven artists from different personal and artistic backgrounds.

Visualized in three thematic sections, Earthly Delights, Hell, and Garden of Eden, The Garden of Earthly Delights brings each panel of Bosch’s original triptych to life in the form of video, sculpture, ceramics, photography, textiles, painting, and performance. In exploring the age-old concepts of sin, indulgence, purity, and innocence in a contemporary context and a wide scope of media, Textured Memos invites the audience to confront spiritual and earthly pleasure - one that embodies opulence and those who dare to chase it to the highest, most divine degree.
